Lain Mathers is a doctoral student in sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Zir research focuses on sexualities, gender, and religion in public and private spaces. Zir research has been published in The Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Social Currents, and Teaching Sociology. Some of Lain's most recent research focuses on the experiences of transgender religious people, heterosexual allies, and cisgender people's reactions to transgender people in public restrooms. Lain also comes from a background in theater and was both a performer and a stagehand before starting zir PhD program.
